BitMEX Launching Physical Bitcoin to Lunar Surface

Cryptocurrency">Cryptocurrency exchange BitMEX seeks to showcase Bitcoin’s revolutionary potential by sending a physical coin to the moon. This first-of-its-kind lunar mission lifts off January 8th with BitMEX collaborating with Astrobotic and other partners.

The 43-gram physical Bitcoin token carries a $45,000 value. It will join over 200 other payloads aboard Astrobotic’s Peregrine lunar lander. The goal is cementing Bitcoin and crypto as integral to mankind’s spacefaring future according to BitMEX CEO Stephan Lutz.

The historic Western soft landing since Apollo 17 aims to advance commercialization of the moon. Beyond symbolic value, it spotlights crypto’s role in evolving global finance and payments systems.

This also follows the popular “Doge-1 Mission” where the Dogecoin community is funding sending the Doge logo to the lunar surface. As innovations like decentralized finance take hold, Bitcoin and crypto journeys into space illustrate the ascendant status of digital asset tech.

With the physical Bitcoin launch, BitMEX and partners hope to inspire current and future generations to push boundaries. The voyage shows Bitcoin and blockchain’s applicability extends from finance to fueling mankind’s lasting march into space discovery.
