A bronze statue of Kabosu, the Shiba Inu dog that became the face of Dogecoin, will be unveiled in Japan this November thanks to fundraising by the cryptocurrency’s community.
The statue will be placed in Sakura Furusato Square as a tribute to the dog that spawned the beloved Doge meme and inspired the creation of Dogecoin. The crowdfunding initiative launched on Kabosu’s 17th birthday in November 2022.
Despite market downturns reducing the value of assets raised, the persistently positive Dogecoin community pushed forward with its goal. The campaign was led by the Dogecoin Foundation, Own The Doge, and Kabosu’s owner.
Sakura Furusato Square, frequented by Kabosu and owner Atsuko Sato, was chosen as the fitting location for the tribute. The picturesque park features an ornamental windmill that will accompany the statue.
Set to be displayed beginning November 2023, the statue symbolizes the profound global impact of Kabosu and the Doge meme. It also celebrates the spirit of unity and positivity driving the Dogecoin community and its charitable causes.
