Google Chrome for iOS to Introduce Camera-Based Search Feature

Google is expanding the functionality of its Chrome iOS browser in an effort to keep iPhone users away from Safari. Soon, Chrome users on iOS will be able to search for whatever they view using just their camera thanks to Google Lens technology that is being added to Chrome. Along with enhanced calendar entry capability and a new miniature Google Maps view, translations are also getting better.

Google Lens support will make it easier to search for items such as plants and clothing on Chrome. Currently, to utilize Lens, users must use a separate Google app. However, in the upcoming months, Google plans to integrate this feature into Chrome. This integration will allow iOS users to search using either new or old photos by clicking on the Lens icon in the address bar. This enhanced functionality is expected to simplify the search process and improve the overall user experience on Chrome.

However, other Chrome for iOS enhancements are already available. Google has enhanced its translation capabilities so that Chrome on iOS users can translate a section of a website by clicking the text and choosing the Google Translate option. Since Chrome and even Safari can currently offer to translate entire pages, this will be helpful for websites that employ a variety of languages.

Users of Chrome on iOS are also benefiting from improved calendar entry capabilities. Without needing to open the Calendar app or manually enter dates, you can create Google Calendar events right inside of Chrome. The option to add dates to Google Calendar, which populates with time and location data automatically, is now available when pressing and holding dates on a webpage.
