Solana Labs’ Latest Release Draws a Comparison to Apple’s Focus on User Experience and Performance

Solana Labs has recently reported that a significant 97.4% of stakeholders have adopted the v1.14 upgrade. This latest release has brought about a number of improvements to the user experience and performance of the Solana network. Raj Gokal, in his comparison of Solana’s potential, has likened it to the emphasis on user experience and performance seen in Apple’s products.

Solana Labs made an announcement on May 31st regarding the v1.14 upgrade of the validator client, revealing that a significant 97.4% of stakeholders had adopted it. The platform also published a blog detailing the features unlocked by this upgrade and providing information on its functionality.

The article by Solana Labs provided a summary of recent events, in which the engineers at Solana Labs recommended that all mainnet-beta validators adopt v1.14 for the Solana Labs validator client on May 21st. However, the news of 97.4% adoption was only published yesterday. Solana Labs emphasized that the release of the validator client version 1.14 includes several significant improvements aimed at enhancing the user experience of the Solana network. It should be noted that while these features are part of the release, their availability is dependent on the activation of the feature gate.

The article also notes that the network experience is unlikely to be significantly impacted until dApps and projects within the ecosystem begin to utilize the new features. Additionally, version 1.14 includes the ability to deactivate delinquent stakes in a permissionless manner, which addresses the problem of skipped blocks and the consequent decline in network performance. The upgrade also introduces the concept of minimum stake delegation, which is subject to validator governance approval, and features a new RPC for retrieving the current minimum stake delegation.

In a recent interview, Raj Gokal, one of the co-founders of Solana, stated his belief that Solana has the potential to become the Apple of the cryptocurrency industry. He expressed that Solana could potentially achieve the same level of success and recognition as Apple.

Gokal draws a comparison between Solana and Apple’s shared emphasis on prioritizing user experience and performance. He specifically noted Apple’s long-standing commitment to refining touchscreen latency for over a decade, which culminated in the revolutionary launch of the iPhone. This announcement of the v1.14 upgrade by Solana Labs is featured in an article on Coin Edition, detailing the enhancements it brings to the network.
