Starbucks Korea has announced an exciting new initiative to encourage sustainability and customer loyalty through blockchain technology. In January 2024, the coffee giant will begin issuing limited-edition non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on the Polygon blockchain network as rewards for customers who use reusable cups.
This new program builds on Starbucks Korea’s existing loyalty platform that launched in December 2022 using Polygon. Customers can earn “eco-stamps” when purchasing eligible drinks that can later be exchanged for the exclusive Starbucks NFTs.
The NFT art has been created in collaboration with the renowned South Korean digital art platform Print Bakery and famous NFT artist DADAZ. Each NFT will feature unique Starbucks-themed artwork that highlights the company’s sustainability efforts.
To celebrate the NFT launch, Starbucks will host a special exhibit at their Starbucks Reserve location in the Jongno-gu district of Seoul. The exhibit will showcase the NFT artwork and demonstrate the progress Starbucks has made on its journey to becoming more eco-friendly.
Currently, Starbucks Korea provides complimentary beverage vouchers to customers who use reusable cups. As part of the new green initiative, these vouchers will be rebranded as “Eco Tumbler Beverage Coupons.” The NFT rewards program and reusable cup vouchers aim to incentivize consumers to reduce waste and make sustainable choices.
Starbucks Korea continues to find innovative ways to engage tech-savvy customers while promoting environmental consciousness. The NFT rewards and art exhibit represent the company’s commitment to blending digital innovation with social responsibility.
