The personal Twitter account of Changpeng Zhao (CZ), former CEO of leading cryptocurrency exchange Binance, faced temporary restrictions earlier today immediately following a change to his profile name on the platform.
CZ stepped down from leadership last week after Binance pled guilty to violations of U.S. anti-money laundering regulations resulting in billions of dollars in fines globally. Shortly after altering his Twitter display today, CZ’s account was abruptly suspended.
Posting on Binance’s community site, CZ expressed frustrations over the automated bot-driven suspension coming on the heels of major life changes after his resignation from Binance amidst increasing legal pressures.
He speculated his suspension was mistakenly triggered by Twitter’s algorithms targeting the name change. CZ critiqued the platform’s approach to bot activity detection while verifying his identity as a legitimate user.
Despite the inconvenience, CZ maintained his characteristic sense of humor – referencing a Chinese idiom stating “disasters never come singly” while still wishing his followers a happy Thanksgiving. The suspension was soon reversed but served as an unexpected hurdle during a challenging transition.
