Meta, formerly Facebook, has announced upgraded models of its Ray-Ban Stories smart glasses developed in partnership with EssilorLuxottica. The new generation adds key features like live streaming, an improved 12MP camera, and Meta’s AI assistant.
Building on last year’s initial launch, Meta aimed to enhance the comfort, style, and core functionality of the glasses based on user feedback. The frames have a slimmer profile and lighter weight for all-day wearability across 150 frame and lens options.
Headlining the new capabilities is the ability to livestream directly to Facebook and Instagram from the glasses hands-free. The built-in 12MP camera can capture 1080p video up to 60 seconds long, a major upgrade from 30-second clips in the prior model.
An integrated “Send Photo” voice command lets users easily share moments on the go. Audio is also improved with higher volume, directional tuning, and a better mic array for voice commands.
Powered by Meta AI, a conversational assistant can be summoned by saying “Hey Meta” to access information via voice controls. This allows for more seamless hands-free use.
Priced at $299, the next-gen Ray-Ban Stories smart glasses are available for pre-order now ahead of an October 17 launch.
The upgraded camera, live streaming, and AI assistant inch the glasses closer to Meta’s vision for ubiquitous wearable tech. By bringing more utility to a fashionable form factor, Meta aims to make smart glasses a mainstream gateway to augmented reality and the metaverse.
