Meta is advancing rapidly into artificial intelligence with the goal of increasing user numbers and revenue growth. As competitors like TikTok reduce their dominance, Meta is getting ready to release many AI-powered features on its applications.
The Financial Times reported that Meta intends to present AI chatbots on Facebook and Instagram potentially as early as September. These virtual assistants will display distinctive personalities to connect with users in more natural discussions.
Meta is working on prototypes such as a bot imitating former US President Abraham Lincoln’s eloquent style to provide advice and a relaxed bot giving travel recommendations in surfer slang. According to Financial Times’ sources, these AI chatbots will enhance search and content suggestions to increase user engagement and time spent. They will also enable brands and companies to interact with consumers in new methods.
Although the bots will initially launch as restricted pilots, Meta intends to expand them more widely if they are effective, per the report.
According to leaked screenshots, Instagram is developing various AI-powered editing instruments to assist users in improving photos. One speculated feature is a digital paintbrush enabling users to edit images by inserting or deleting objects post-capture. Another is a “restyle” tool that would transform photos to match any visual aesthetic.
As per reports, Instagram is developing an AI capability to identify and tag computer-generated versus real images. This could limit misinformation and address concerns regarding highly realistic fake visuals.
Additionally, Instagram is investigating AI-created captions that automatically describe photos to improve accessibility and AI-sorted folders that categorize images by individuals or subjects.
The continuous testing of such novel capabilities implies Meta is hastily integrating AI into Instagram’s fundamental features.
Additionally, visual AI efforts will expand on Meta’s advancement into natural language processing. In July, Meta open-sourced its LLaMA 2 language model to external developers. Reports indicate Meta will also launch a commercial variant to compete with ChatGPT.
Meta’s amplified concentration on AI follows underwhelming enthusiasm for its previously dominant metaverse vision. The company’s stock price declined over 55% last year due to slowing Facebook growth.
However, in 2023, Meta’s stock has rebounded over 160% – potentially boosted by its public shift into generative AI.
