Developer Entero Positivo has created a new tool called “BIP39 Colors” that converts crypto wallet seed phrases into an array of colors. This provides a potentially more discreet way to store phrases compared to writing down 12 or 24 words.
Positivo said he made this because seed phrases need physical backups, but having 12-24 written words is obvious to anyone finding them. The colors instead seem random and can be scattered across many places.
The tool turns BIP39 seed words into 8 or 16-colors and hex codes based on 12 or 24-word phrases. The colors encode the words and their position in the phrase, allowing decentralized storage and recovery.
Positivo advises using the tool offline for maximum security. The color swatches can even be generated manually with a calculator. Seed phrases have been exposed publicly before, so discreet physical backups are important.
Overall, BIP39 Colors offers crypto users a new option to hide wallets in plain sight as colors. This provides an inconspicuous and decentralized way to store sensitive phrases.
