The Chinese tech giant, Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. introduced a new AI language model called Tongyi Qianwen and it is said to transform how businesses communicate.
The Tongyi Qianwen claims to be “a large model that specifically responds to human instructions, an efficiency assistant, and an idea generator”. Its name translates to “seeking an answer by asking a thousand questions”, this chatbot is trained to perform various tasks including but not limited to writing emails and business proposals, providing travel plans, giving shopping suggestions, and generating pictures. It is also powered by an LLM (Large Language Model) that is believed to consist of ten trillion parameters, which is ten times of ChatGPT which only consists of around one trillion parameters.
Tongyi Qianwen and ChatGPT are both LLMs with the capability to process both English and Chinese language but with slightly different features, wherein the former primarily focused on business-related tasks while the latter is also used to improve search results.

The AI chatbot is designed to be a one-stop shop for people and enterprises wishing to organize their processes and boost efficiency. As of now, Tongyi Qianwen will be embedded in Alibaba’s messaging application “Dingtalk” and smart speaker “Tmall Genie”.
Alibaba Cloud Intelligence has also announced its plan to open the basic model of the Tongyi Qianwen, however, the cost of using it has not yet been disclosed.
