Solana Mobile has received 100,000 preorders for its upcoming second mobile device called “Chapter 2”. This preorder milestone was reached in less than 30 days, exceeding the company’s original production plans by 5 times.
The $450 early preorder pricing will now end in 48 hours due to hitting the 100k preorder goal. Solana Mobile expects to ship Chapter 2 in the first half of 2025.
Previously, Solana sold 20,000 of its Saga smartphones. 15,000 Sagas were sold in a single day in December 2022 when there was overwhelming demand, leading inventory to sell out globally.
The surge in Saga sales came after initially underwhelming sales of only 2,500 devices by early December. This led Solana to reevaluate the mobile market.
It’s unclear if Chapter 2 is a smartphone. Solana Mobile’s website doesn’t confirm whether Chapter 2 is a phone. The device is described only as “mobile”.
The huge sales spike in December for the Saga has been widely attributed to a price surge of the Solana meme coin BONK rather than demand for the phone itself. Each Saga device came with the rights to claim $985 worth of BONK at its peak price.
While it’s uncertain if Chapter 2 will have similarly profitable ties to cryptocurrencies, Solana Mobile says the device will offer rewards programs sponsored by various Solana ecosystem partners.
