XRP Liquid Staking Vault Reaches $20M as mXRP Drives DeFi Adoption

The XRP ecosystem is experiencing a significant shift toward decentralized finance as investors embrace new opportunities to generate yield from their holdings. The recently launched mXRP liquid staking token has demonstrated remarkable traction, with its initial vault capacity of 6.5 million tokens filling completely within just two days. Blockchain infrastructure provider Axelar was compelled to increase the vault ceiling to 10 million tokens, representing nearly $20 million in total locked value, showcasing the substantial pent-up demand from investors seeking productive uses for their previously idle XRP assets.

Built on the XRP Ledger’s Ethereum Virtual Machine sidechain, mXRP represents a groundbreaking approach to unlocking utility from one of cryptocurrency’s oldest assets. The tokenization platform Midas enables users to stake their XRP and receive wrapped mXRP tokens in return, offering targeted annual yields of up to 8%. The mechanism involves bridging XRP to the sidechain and depositing it into tokenized vaults, where independent risk curators like Hyperithm allocate the capital into yield-generating strategies including market-making and liquidity provisioning activities.

This innovation addresses a longstanding challenge in the XRP ecosystem, where much of the token supply has remained dormant for years. Midas co-founder and CEO Dennis Dinkelmeyer highlighted the initiative’s goal of mobilizing this stagnant capital through transparent on-chain strategies. The performance of underlying yield strategies directly impacts mXRP’s value, ensuring token holders benefit from the returns generated by their staked assets.

The mXRP launch reflects a broader transformation aimed at enhancing XRP’s versatility within decentralized markets. While XRP’s DeFi ecosystem currently lags behind competitors like Ethereum with its hundreds of billions in total value locked, cross-chain frameworks are enabling XRP to interact with DeFi applications across multiple blockchains. Complementary initiatives like Flare Network’s FXRP are simultaneously expanding XRP’s utility in lending protocols and liquidity pools, collectively working to establish XRP as a more integral component of the evolving DeFi landscape.
