Kim Jong Un to Visit Russia for Arms Talks: Report

Kim Jong-un is reportedly planning to travel to Russia this month to meet with Vladimir Putin. The purpose of the visit would be to discuss the possibility of North Korea supplying weapons to Russia to support its war efforts in Ukraine.

Details of the expected meeting are still unclear, but it is likely to take place in Vladivostok given its proximity to North Korea. Kim would likely travel there by his armored train.

The visit comes as both leaders seek to boost military and economic ties between their countries, in the face of growing international isolation due to the war in Ukraine and North Korea’s nuclear program.

Putin hopes to obtain North Korean artillery and anti-tank munitions, while Kim wants Russian technology for satellites and submarines. This follows North Korea’s recent failed attempts to launch reconnaissance satellites.

Kim also seeks food aid from Russia, amid reports of widespread malnutrition in North Korea. There is speculation Russia proposed North Korea joint naval exercises with China.

The US has expressed concern over arms negotiations between Russia and North Korea, warning it would violate UN resolutions. The White House says Putin and Kim have exchanged letters about cooperation.

Overall, the meeting reflects Kim and Putin’s mutual desire for closer military ties, despite international opposition. Kim aims to obtain Russian aid and technology while providing weapons support for the Ukraine war.
