LastPass Hack Victims Lose $4.4M in Crypto in One Day

Hackers stole $4.4 million worth of cryptocurrency from at least 25 LastPass users on October 25th, according to blockchain analyst ZachXBT. LastPass, a password management service, suffered a breach last year when hackers targeted an employee and obtained their credentials.

Since then, ZachXBT and MetaMask developer Taylor Monahan have tracked at least 80 crypto wallets compromised due to the LastPass breach. The hackers have siphoned funds from itcoin">Bitcoin, Ethereum">Ethereum, BNB, Arbitrum, Solana, and Polygon blockchains.

“Cannot stress this enough, if you believe you may have ever stored your seed phrase or keys in LastPass migrate your crypto assets immediately,” ZachXBT wrote. Cryptocurrency wallets are frequent targets because obtaining the private key gives hackers full access.

In July, over $300 million was stolen from crypto users in a series of hacks and exploits. This LastPass breach further highlights the risks of storing sensitive information online. Users should enable 2FA and never store private keys in password managers.
