Despite stating that they had withdrawn from Ukraine and transferred control to Russian defense ministry fighters last month, the Pentagon has indicated that the Wagner Group, a Russian mercenary group, is still present in the war-torn nation.
Brigadier General Pat Ryder, the Pentagon press secretary, stated that currently, there are still some elements of the Wagner Group observed in the Russian-occupied territory in Ukraine when asked about the Wagner Group and its status.
He further mentioned that the Wagner Group has been engaged in operations in Ukraine for a considerable period of time. Specifically, they were last active in the vicinity of Bakhmut, indicating that some units from the Wagner Group are still present in Ukraine.
During a press briefing, he responded to a question regarding the new location of the Wagner Group in southern Belarus, which was indicated by a satellite image of a former military base.
According to a senior Moscow politician, Yevgeny Prigozhin, the rebellious leader of Wagner, was informed that his mercenaries would no longer be participating in Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine after he refused to comply with the Russian defense ministry’s contracts for his fighters.
