Solana Launches Real-Time Dashboard to Track Carbon Emissions on Its Blockchain

Solana, a layer-1 blockchain network, has teamed up with Trycarbonara to launch a real-time tracking dashboard that helps to measure on-chain carbon emissions. The Solana Foundation, which aims to expand and decentralize the network, claims that it is the first “major smart-contract blockchain” to offer real-time monitoring of its carbon emissions.

The Solana Foundation aims to encourage other blockchain networks to be more open about their carbon emissions by setting an example with its new dashboard. The Foundation hopes to establish a new standard for measuring blockchain emissions by publicly sharing this data.

The dashboard, which can be found on the Solana Climate website, provides information on Solana’s total node count, carbon emissions generated by average and marginal usage, and total megawatt-hours. In addition, the dashboard includes charts that enable users to compare Solana’s carbon output with other emission-producing activities along with other indicators.

According to the real-time dashboard, using one gallon of gasoline equals performing 140,417 transactions on the Solana blockchain. The Solana Foundation has released the data behind the dashboard as open-source. It also mentioned that its carbon footprint is based on the carbon footprint of the Dell PowerEdge R940.
