When asked about US partners like Algeria and Egypt seeking BRICS membership, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said countries should speak for themselves on diplomatic engagements. She stated the US leads with an affirmative agenda showing the benefits of its governance and economic models.
Jean-Pierre added that US policy does not make partners choose between America and others. The US wants countries to have choices on delivering results for citizens.
Interest in joining BRICS has surged with over 40 nations interested and 22 formally applying per South Africa’s BRICS diplomat.
As BRICS summit host, South Africa invited 69 leaders, including all African heads of state, but no Western leaders despite French President Macron’s expressed interest.
The US aims to highlight the advantages of its systems as interest grows in alternatives like BRICS that challenge Western dominance. But it claims it does not oppose countries evaluating diverse partnerships.
