Marissa Jarratt, Executive Vice President, and Chief Marketing & Sustainability Officer, expressed enthusiasm about finding innovative ways to celebrate with customers on this special day in a recent press release.
Exclusively accessible on mobile devices, this sugary collectible game showcases a virtual 7-Eleven Slurpee cup and highlights four delightful flavors: Cherry, Blue Raspberry, Pina Colada, and Summertime Citrus.
“Maybe you’ll even give us some inspiration for future flavors,” Jarratt said.
Collectors have the freedom to select any flavor or combination of flavors, in any sequence they desire, to design the Slurpee of their dreams (and perhaps their dentist’s nightmares).
Once the cup is filled to the brim, the collector is presented with a screen where they can either claim their “Slurpee Vibe Digital Collectible” or opt to return to the previous screen and start the process all over again.
If the collector is happy with what they have created, they can choose the option “claim now” and proceed to the following screen. On this screen, the collector will be prompted to provide their name, email address, and phone number. Subsequently, a six-digit code will be sent via email to the collector, granting them access to claim their Slurpee NFT.
A new wallet for the Polygon blockchain, designed to accommodate the Slurpee token, will be established along with the creation of a digital collectible.
When it comes to the Slurpee app, the mention of NFTs is avoided and it is regarded by certain individuals as a controversial term. Instead, the app utilizes the term “digital collectible.” The sole mention of non-fungible tokens is found in the app’s terms of service, providing the only reference to their existence.
NFTs, also recognized as non-fungible tokens, are distinct cryptographic tokens associated with digital media, and on occasion, tangible material, serving as evidence of ownership.
In contrast to typical NFTs where holders retain proprietorship and maintain full autonomy over their collectibles, 7-Eleven’s ‘Find Your Slurpee Vibe’ collectibles are only licensed to the collector, and cannot be transferred or put up for sale to a third party. The terms of service highlight that these collectibles are not stored or transmitted to others.
In the previous month, Slim Jim, a well-known snack brand, introduced a compilation of NFTs called “GigaJims” on the Polygon network, featuring 10,000 complimentary digital collectibles. Moreover, Taco Bell and Burger King made their forays into this domain in 2021. Notably, other brands such as Chick-Fil-A, Toyota, and pharmaceutical manufacturer Pfizer are also exploring ways to utilize blockchain technology and NFTs to their advantage.
