Esports giant Team Liquid has revealed a major collaboration with Illuvium, an upcoming NFT video game currently in early access. Team Liquid co-founder and co-CEO Victor Goossens announced the partnership on Wednesday. As part of the deal, Team Liquid members will test and provide feedback on Illuvium’s player-versus-player battle mode, which Goossens praised for its quality. Popular Team Liquid content creators “broxa” and “midbeast” will be among those evaluating the game.
Additionally, Team Liquid will work with Illuvium on growing its esports scene. This includes co-hosting a $100,000 Illuvium tournament in 2024. Goossens said the organization believes Illuvium rewards skill and strategy much like other competitive games Team Liquid is involved with. The collaboration aligns with Team Liquid’s recent explorations into the crossover potential between crypto and gaming.
As another aspect of the partnership, Illuvium will release Team Liquid-themed NFT items such as character skins and avatars. Illuvium is built using Immutable X, an Ethereum scaling solution focused on gaming. In their announcement, the Illuvium team emphasized this collaboration goes beyond a standard partnership.
They want to set a precedent for mainstream adoption of web3 gaming and create a world where gaming achievements translate into real-world rewards. Earlier this year, a Team Liquid executive said they aim to provide fans a safe way to explore top new web3 games. The organization sees crypto and gaming as complementary industries.
