The Sui Foundation, a blockchain organization, has partnered with the American University of Sharjah (AUS) in the United Arab Emirates to establish a new Blockchain Academy. This academy aims to increase blockchain awareness and provide blockchain education to university students in Sharjah and the surrounding region.
According to Greg Siourounis, managing director of the Sui Foundation, the goal is to educate students on the capabilities and limitations of blockchain technology through seminars, workshops, and other learning opportunities. This will allow students to gain a deeper understanding of how blockchain can be utilized to create innovative platforms and applications.
Siourounis was pleasantly surprised to find that many AUS students already have some basic knowledge about blockchain tech. In a recent event where students presented ideas, 7 out of 10 groups proposed solutions that incorporated blockchain in some way. This demonstrated to Siourounis the need to expand on this existing awareness among young people who will become the next generation of entrepreneurs.
In addition to providing students with practical blockchain development skills, the Sui Foundation also wants to equip them with the ability to think critically about blockchain information. This will allow students to filter out misinformation as blockchain goes mainstream.
The creation of the Blockchain Academy aligns with the Emirate of Sharjah’s broader vision to become a hub for blockchain research and education in the region. University officials believe engaging students in emerging technologies like blockchain will provide them with future-focused skills and experiences needed to thrive in tomorrow’s workforce.
