A total of 18 U.S. senators now fall into the pro-crypto category, according to recent data analysis from the nonprofit advocacy group Stand With Crypto">Crypto.
The group’s tracker shows Republican Senators Cynthia Lummis and Ted Cruz currently as the most vocally pro-crypto politicians in the Senate, with Lummis touting 8 crypto-related bills and 184 public statements and Cruz at 5 bills and 92 statements.
They are followed closely by fellow GOP Senators Bill Hagerty and Todd Young, giving Republicans 14 of the 18 total Senators now considered pro-crypto. The remaining 4 pro-crypto senators are Democrats.
However, there are still 30 senators firmly opposed to crypto innovation, including 23 Democrats, 5 Republicans, and 2 Independents.
With 100 total Senators, this leaves over half in the neutral or undecided camp for now. But momentum appears to be shifting more favorably for crypto supporters lately.
Some presidential candidates like Republican Donald Trump and Independent Robert F. Kennedy Jr. are also making crypto a key part of their platform. Meanwhile, President Joe Biden has to date remained crypto-skeptical.
Among Senators, Democrat Elizabeth Warren is still the most vocal critic with 3 introduced bills against crypto now and 76 negative public statements. In 2023 she made fighting crypto a core piece of her re-election campaign.
Despite obstacles, the growing representation of crypto in the Senate suggests changing attitudes toward digital assets in Washington. With 18 Senators now publicly standing with crypto, the industry has its highest number of allies in the chamber ever.
