Stablecoin leader Circle has rolled out a series of upgrades for its popular USDC and EURC tokens. Dubbed v2.2, the changes aim to reduce gas costs, enable better account abstraction, and boost security for transactions on EVM chains.
This marks the first major USDC upgrade since early 2021, introducing six key improvements. Circle stated the v2.2 release brings added utility through backward compatibility, without breaking existing integrations or requiring user action.
Specifically, the upgrades allow direct USDC and EURC transfers between contracts, saving on unnecessary approvals. This provides cost savings for users moving funds between smart contracts.
Abstracting user accounts also enables more private, secure blockchain activity by decoupling wallets from on-chain data. Optimized contract interfaces further reduce gas fees.
For added security, v2.2 introduces reentrancy protection and chain ID verification to prevent cross-chain threats on EVM networks. Circle plans to bring v2.2 to all chains supporting USDC and EURC.
As the second-largest stablecoin by market cap, USDC’s growth underscores the demand for price-stable crypto. Circle’s upgrades aim to bolster utility and safety as adoption spreads across DeFi and CeFi.
