Immutable, a Web3 gaming company, has introduced a new login system called “Immutable Passport” that allows users to access certain games and apps without needing to store recovery seed phrases. This alternative login method instead enables account creation and recovery via linkage to existing Google, Apple, or email accounts.
At launch, Immutable Passport was implemented in five Immutable-powered products – Gods Unchained, Blocklete Golf, B/R Watch 2 Earn, TokenTrove, and AtomicHub – which together boast over 500,000 total users. After logging in through Passport, users gain access to a centralized dashboard that consolidates asset management, account funding, discovery of new games, and connection to third-party wallets.
According to Immutable, previous internal research found gamers demonstrate twice the willingness to sign up for Passport compared to a conventional crypto wallet. The company also claims Passport classifies as “noncustodial,” with private keys encrypted and stored in a third-party Amazon Hardware Security Module instead of held by Immutable itself.
The introduction of Immutable Passport represents the organization’s latest push towards maximizing accessibility and usability for mainstream gaming audiences exploring Web3 opportunities. Recent supplemental efforts include the integration of fiat on-ramps via Transak and plans for gas-free transactions in 2024, with the overarching goal being the reduction of blockchain friction across customer experience touchpoints.
