The philanthropic foundation started by legendary professional boxer Manny Pacquiao is integrating with the Shiba Inu-based blockchain Shibarium in order to expand its charitable operations.
The Manny Pacquiao Foundation, founded by the eight-division boxing world champion and former senator of the Philippines, will begin utilizing Shibarium for its fundraising efforts and organizational activities.
Based in California, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit has been accepting donations denominated in Shiba Inu cryptocurrency since 2021. Shibarium is a layer 2 blockchain network built on top of Ethereum that aims to offer faster transaction speeds and lower fees compared to the underlying Ethereum blockchain.
By adopting Shibarium, the Pacquiao Foundation aims to scale up its charitable work providing housing, medical care, and disaster relief to disadvantaged communities globally. The organization has already aided over 100,000 individuals through projects in Uganda, the Philippines, and beyond.
Integrating with Shibarium represents Pacquiao’s latest foray into cryptocurrency and blockchain technology. He previously served as a brand ambassador for a Singapore-based crypto exchange in 2018. He has also launched his own cryptocurrency token, a crypto-enabled financial services company, non-fungible token (NFT) collections, and collaborative blockchain projects over the last few years.
Leveraging Shibarium will allow the Pacquiao Foundation to grow its operational capacity and attract crypto-denominated donations from Shiba Inu enthusiasts worldwide. The move continues the boxing legend’s embrace of digital assets and decentralized technologies to further his altruistic goals.
