Polygon has announced its new Polygon CDK (Chain Development Kit) to address interoperability issues faced by existing application-specific blockchains.
In a Twitter thread, Polygon highlighted how many appchain ecosystems struggle with liquidity and cross-chain operability. Polygon CDK aims to transform this as part of Polygon’s “vision of the Value Layer of the Internet.”
As explained, developers can use the open-source Polygon CDK and its modular codebase to deploy their own customizable zero-knowledge (ZK) powered layer-2 chains on Ethereum. The technology provides seamless interoperability between chains, per Polygon.
Moreover, Polygon CDK gives developers the flexibility to choose components to build tailored chains matching their needs. It also lets current Polygon Supernets upgrade to Polygon’s “industry-leading ZK technology” like the zkEVM protocol.
To solve liquidity problems, Polygon CDK connects deployed chains together and enables near-instant finality and cross-chain execution across networks. With CDK, users also avoid running full nodes for transaction verification, instead relying on cryptographic proofs.
In addition to shared liquidity access, Polygon CDK enables one-click integration with Ethereum liquidity. It also provides access to Polygon’s high-speed ZK-proof generation and aggregation technologies ready for production use.
The launch of Polygon CDK makes it simpler than ever for developers to build highly customizable and interoperable layer-2 networks. By solving common appchain issues, Polygon aims to power the next generation of scalable and connected blockchain apps.
