Oklahoma City Thunder basketball star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is attempting to void his recent $6 million purchase of a Toronto home. He bought the house from Aiden Pleterski, a controversial self-proclaimed “crypto king.”
According to reports, Gilgeous-Alexander and his girlfriend moved into the home in May but left after just two days. A person had shown up at the house looking for Pleterski, who owed millions to defrauded crypto investors.
Similar threatening visitors had come to the home previously when Pleterski lived there. But Gilgeous-Alexander claims he did not know of Pleterski or the safety issues.
His lawsuit alleges the sellers failed to disclose the home’s history of security threats. The NBA player argues no reasonable buyer would purchase the house knowing those details.
The case underscores the crypto industry’s ongoing issues with fraud and lack of oversight endangering public safety. As celebrities invest in crypto, avoiding associations with problematic figures is crucial to protect reputation and wealth.
