Planetarium Labs, a Web3 gaming startup, revealed two new blockchain-based roleplaying games at the Korea Blockchain Week event. The games are Verse8, an open-source decentralized RPG, and Immortal Rising 2, a competitive idle RPG.
Verse8 is designed as a multiverse of user-generated RPG content and virtual economies. Game creators can build their own evolving worlds using tools for world generation, distribution, and monetization. Verse8 aims to enable a thriving ecosystem of independent virtual worlds.
Immortal Rising 2 is the Web3 sequel to Immortal Rising, a top-grossing idle RPG in South Korea. The new game keeps the original’s fast-paced gameplay while adding innovations like dynamic guild wars and self-balancing tokenomics.
Planetarium Labs CEO JC Kim said the games represent the company’s vision to redefine Web3 gaming with immersive experiences and opportunities for user creativity. The company previously raised $32 million to develop ambitious blockchain games like these.
Jake Song, CEO of Lineage creator XLGames, is collaborating on Verse8. He said the game’s open content creation protocol democratizes development so anyone can build experiences for others to enjoy.
Planetarium Labs aims to pioneer decentralized, open-source gaming. The games use the company’s Libplanet blockchain technology to enable player participation and open-source content creation.
Alan Lau of investor Animoca Brands said Immortal Rising 2 shows the potential of collaborations between gaming and blockchain innovations. The company looks forward to the new era of community-driven blockchain game content.
