NFT Project Pudgy Penguins Unveils Web3 Game “Pudgy World”

The popular Ethereum-based NFT collection Pudgy Penguins unveiled plans for its own metaverse gaming experience during Art Basel Miami 2022. Dubbed Pudgy World, the 3D browser game will launch in the alpha stage in 2024, providing owners of Pudgy Penguin NFTs and plush toys the ability to adopt virtual character versions of their real-world collectibles.

Originally launched in October 2021, Pudgy Penguins quickly rose to prominence in the NFT space before becoming embroiled in controversy regarding its anonymous founder. After establishing a new executive team and advisory board, the project bounced back, raising $9 million in funding, securing merchandising deals with major retailers, and generating viral traction on social media.

Now Pudgy Penguins aims to capitalize on its success by offering token holders and fans the opportunity to interact with their prized penguin possessions in a gaming metaverse. In Pudgy World’s lobby, players can take their first virtual steps onto the ice before embarking on adventures across the expansive virtual world. Gamers can customize their pudgy avatar’s looks by purchasing trait upgrades and participating in story-driven quests.

While free-to-play, Pudgy World will also incorporate play-to-earn mechanics, allowing committed players to monetize their in-game achievements. The game will incorporate zkSync, a layer-2 scaling solution for Ethereum that leverages zero-knowledge proofs to offer enhanced scalability and privacy.

Pudgy Penguins CEO Luca Netz stated the game’s goal is to make blockchain mechanics approachable for mainstream audiences already captivated by the brand’s physical collectibles and social media content. With Web3 gaming positioned for extensive future adoption, Pudgy World represents a gateway product offering uncomplicated and enjoyable utility for existing brand loyalists.
